Registered Massage Therapy

Complementary to acupuncture and an effective standalone treatment, massage therapy is the physical manipulation of your body’s soft tissues - muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, and joints - to relieve pain, release tension, improve flexibility and mobility, relax the body, and prevent injury.

At Acupoint Wellness, our Registered Massage Therapists are highly trained to both identify the sources of pain, tension, and stress or inflammation, and to rehabilitate those areas so that the body can return to optimal physical and mental function.

Beyond alleviation of pain and tension from injury, stress, and repetitive strain, massage therapy also improves mood, reduces anxiety, improves circulation, relieves stress, boosts the immune system, and provides a better awareness of your body’s subtle signals of imbalance.

Through various massage techniques like myofascial release, trigger point release, joint mobilization, deep tissue and Swedish massage, and more, your RMT is assisting your body in returning to a healthy state of soft, flexible muscles, skeletal alignment, balanced strength, and full range of motion. These manual manipulations bring oxygen and nutrients to the soft tissues, reduce inflammation, lower stress hormones like cortisol, relieve pressure on pinched nerves, the spine, and skeletal system, lengthen tight muscles or tendons, break down scar tissue, release knots, and repair and strengthen weakened or injured muscles.

Post-session

Based on your intake form and individual concerns, your RMT will discuss a treatment plan with you to ensure you’re comfortable and understand how the session will proceed. After the assessment, your massage therapist will briefly leave the room so you can remove clothing if needed and get settled under the blanket. Your RMT will ensure the level of pressure meets your needs and is within your comfort level on any given day. It is common to experience areas of tenderness, discomfort, or light pain throughout your massage, as areas are released and stretched.

If you feel pain beyond your tolerance level, or would like more pressure at any point during your massage therapy session, please let your RMT know. Your practitioner is more than happy to adapt the treatment, adjust pressure or technique; we want you to feel comfortable and supported during every session.
