Buccal Facial Massage

Both preventative and corrective, buccal massage (pronounced “buckle”) is a highly specialized treatment that blends facial sculpting massage and intraoral (inside the mouth) massage.

Buccal facial massage promotes a deep release of tight facial muscles, as well as relaxation of surface tension, resulting in improved or prevented TMJ (temporomandibular joint) conditions, softening of facial lines, recovered muscle tone, reduced puffiness, and better cheek and jaw definition.

Hailed as the new, non-invasive facelift, buccal massage is a natural way to slow down premature ageing with the added health benefits of reducing emotional blockages, releasing tension caused by stress, and improving lymphatic drainage.

Contraindications

Buccal massage works simultaneously on the oral cavity and face, allowing your practitioner to reach deeper layers of muscle tissue and ligaments. The repetitive and rhythmic movements of this massage help to retrain the muscle to lift the face and improve muscle elasticity, while also relaxing both deep and surface tension, allowing for a more natural facial posture. With many lymph nodes in the cheeks, jaw, and neck, buccal facial massage also improves lymph flow to reduce puffy eyes, dark circles, and sagging skin, while improving skin detoxification.

Typically, a series of 8-10 weekly treatments are recommended, followed by monthly maintenance treatments thereafter. Although you will see really nice results after your first session, the difference will be much more noticeable after the fourth consecutive treatment as—just like working out—the results are cumulative.

Before your buccal massage begins, your practitioner will cleanse your face to remove makeup, sunscreen, or other products. During your treatment, you’ll receive both facial and intraoral massage, a facial mask, and a head and neck massage. The intraoral portion of this treatment is performed with gloves, and is not as strange as it may sound! Most of us don’t realize how much facial tension we are holding, and with almost an entire hour focused on your facial muscles—inside and out—the deep release is extremely satisfying, and the result is a naturally refreshed look!

If you have jaw tension, you may experience some discomfort during the massage. Usually it's a good, therapeutic discomfort, but we will always check to see if the pressure is okay, and we welcome you to please let us know if you feel too much discomfort.
Please note that working on facial muscles may cause emotions to stir. This is completely normal as emotions are stored deep in our muscle tissue. This is a safe place to allow your emotions to flow if you need.

It’s common to feel deeply relaxed after a session, and, not unlike a good workout, your facial muscles might feel fatigued. Depending on your level of tension going into the treatment, your face or jaw may feel sore, achy, or tender. If so, apply a warm compress to soothe the muscles.

It’s also important to stay well hydrated after a treatment. While it’s okay to carry on with your daily activities or exercise routine post-session, we recommend taking it easy. You may experience a little fatigue, and in some rare cases very mild flu-like symptoms (aching, headache) — all signs of your body’s natural healing and detoxification process.
